Coming soon, a new off-leash dog park in Kalamazoo! The City of Kalamazoo is underway for Phase I of the Dog Park. Kalamazoo's first dog park is slated to open Fall 2010! The City of Kalamazoo Parks & Recreation Department is selling commemorative bricks to be installed in the park. Pet of the Month

Meet Jasper or “Doo” as he is sometimes called! He’s a fun loving Golden Retriever, who is best friends with buddy Little John. You’ll see him around the community on his daily walks carrying a ball or hanging out by the clubhouse greeting our residents. He enjoys rolling around in the wet grass too! Stop by with your pet for a photo opportunity and a chance to get into the next newsletter.

If you turn the air conditioner off at night but need it during the day, turn it on early in the morning before the temperature outside gets too hot. Use rubbing alcohol on carpet to remove wine stains. While the stain is still wet, rub it out
with a sponge. Flush the stain with water and pat dry with a white cloth.

Need to hang a photo or assemble furniture and don’t have the tools you need? Want to play tennis or volleyball but don’t have any equipment to play? Stop by the office and see if we have what you need. We have tool kits and recreational items to check out.

Summer Vegetable Potato Salad

Ingredients
1 lb. small yellow or red new potatoes, sliced
2 fresh ears of sweet corn, cooked, or 1 cup frozen
whole kernel corn, thawed
4 roma tomatoes, sliced or cut into thin wedges
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, torn
1/4 cup olive oil
3 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
1 Tbsp. finely chopped shallot or red onion
1/2 tsp. Dijon-style mustard
1/4 tsp. sugar
1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
Fresh basil leaves

Directions
1. In medium saucepan cook potatoes, covered, in enough boiling salted water tocover for 5 minutes or until just tender. Drain and cool. Cut corn from cob. On large serving platter arrange the potatoes and tomatoes. Sprinkle with corn and 1/4 cup basil.
2. For dressing, in a screw-top jar combine oil, vinegar, shallot, mustard, sugar, and salt and pepper to taste. Cover and shake well. Pour dressing over potato mixture.* Sprinkle salad with feta cheese and basil leaves.
Makes 8 to 10 servings.
*Make Ahead: Refrigerate salad up to 4 hours. Sprinkle with feta cheese and basil
leaves, and let come to room temperature before serving.
